1) Statement of Need

Social and emotional skills are very important components of natural human development. Without them many of our daily interactions, basic tasks, and the ability to carry out long-term goals become more difficult. These skills are a critical component to early development, as one-on-one interactions between children occur in daily environments (e.g., in the classroom and on the playground). Social and emotional skills continue to play an integral part in development as the child ages and enters adulthood. Social and emotional skills become necessary in most daily activities, including, but not limited to, social activities and workplace interactions.

There are many children who have underdeveloped social – emotional skills. These include children on the autism spectrum, children with personality disorders, and those who merely were not taught these skills throughout the course of their development.
